Welcome Guest
Established in 1978 as the Cobb Youth Chorale, the Georgia Young Singers is now affiliated with Kennesaw State University and is a nonprofit organization which provides music instruction with the goal of attaining excellence in the performance of choral music. Opportunities for musical training are provided by the active schedule planned for singers throughout the year.
Currently, the Georgia Young Singers is made up of three choirs.
Preparatory Choir
The children at this level have demonstrated an ability to match pitch. In this choir, they will improve their unison singing skills and begin basic training in easy 2-part work. Note reading, basic score reading and basic vocal technique begin at this level.
Concert Choir
In this choir, part-singing skill development is continued. Vocal techniques, basic pentatonic sight-reading and solfege skills are emphasized, and music theory, history and appreciation begin to be developed.
Tour Choir
This is the advanced choir for students who have established good vocal technique. Students at this level have advanced solfege and sight-reading skills and have developed excellent rehearsal habits. This group participates in an annual summer tour.
